Who we are

Overview

NAMLS serves as the voice of all medical laboratory professionals In Namibia. We are committed to the advancement of laboratory medicine through advocating the values and the role of the profession in ensuring effective health care. Our main aim is to improve healthcare in Namibia through promoting the strengthening of laboratory medicine.

By supporting our members in their practice of laboratory medicine, we strive to enhance the profession through promoting dialogue, continuous professional development and quality laboratory service underpinned by innovation.

Our Profession

Medical Technologists/Medical Laboratory Scientists carry out investigations on tissue and body fluid samples and usually work in medical laboratories in the areas of diagnosis, screening, monitoring and research.

Most of our members work in healthcare, with some working in academia, the commercial sector, government agencies and services.

We envision being Namibia’s premier membership body for promoting quality medical laboratory practice.

To promote the medical laboratory profession, in order to enhance provision of ethical quality healthcare underpinned by innovation.

NAMLS Objectives

  • To organize courses for training and to accept responsibility, when required, for examination of Medical Technologists/ Medical Laboratory Scientists in Namibia.
  • To maintain a high standard of competence and conduct among members in order to preserve the dignity and professional status of medical laboratory professionals.
  • To constitute a body which shall represent and negotiate the considered view of medical laboratory professionals in Namibia.
  • To establish a means whereby medical laboratory professionals can meet to discuss their common problems through social dialogue, lectures, workshops and similar means in order to stimulate and maintain interest in all branches of Medical Laboratory Science.
  •  To encourage and assist member recruitment and encourage members to undertake relevant research for the advancement of the profession and medicine in general.
  • To maintain close liaison where possible with other bodies which have similar scientific objectives to promote quality of laboratory medicine.
